Cordyceps Mushroom

Accommodation for your peace of mind

Cordyceps mushrooms are powerful functional and medicinal mushrooms with a long history of use in the Far East as well as in South America. Cordyceps is a type of sac fungi, that includes hundreds of different species, most of which are known to be parasitic mainly on insects and other arthropods, while a few are parasitic to other fungi. Amongst the hundreds of species of Cordyceps, there are two main types that are commercially available and marketed for supplementation.

Cordyceps sinensis vs. Cordyceps militaris

There are key differences between two distinct readily available types of Cordyceps. So when it comes to Cordyceps sinensis and Cordyceps militaris, which variety gives you the most health benefits? Which one is more economical for your pockets?

Cordyceps Sinensis

Cordyceps sinensis has been used for centuries as a fundamental aspect of maintaining and developing health and is an important component in traditional medical systems such as Traditional Chinese Medicine. In modern times, it has become so rare and highly sought after for its unique health benefits that prices have skyrocketed so much that purchasing it has become way out of reach for an average joe. The C. sinensis species is very rare in the wild because of the kind of lifecycle that is attributed to the fungi. After Cordyceps spores enter and infect an insects body the fungus begins to grow inside and eventually takes over with its mycelium growth. The mycelium spreads until it fully consumes its insides and kills the insect. The fruiting body then begins to grow from the head. Specific environmental conditions are also necessary for it to thrive, as it is mainly found growing at high elevations in places like Tibet and certain Chinese provinces. Each of the species of Cordyceps has a specific insect of which it can infect that is unique to it’s ability to infect it. These specifics of C. sinensis result in great scarcity of this wild variety and it’s desirable health benefits. If it can’t be found in the wild and it can’t be purchased economically as the price tag for it is around $20,000 per kilogram, how can people benefits from it’s benefits.

The huge spike in price of this precious resource has dubbed it “Himalayan Gold”. In it’s native regions, harvesting it is an important household source of income, so much so that disputes have erupted over harvesting territories and outsiders trying to push their way in. Harvesting permits have even been issued by the Chinese government and local land holders for access to the growing regions.

Cordyceps militaris

Apart from C. sinensis, there is another type of Cordyceps species that can be commercially cultivated at a grand scale known as Cordyceps militaris. C. militaris can grow and infect a variety of insects which is why it can be widely found in North America and Asia. They are commonly found in mountainous regions, in bogs or wetlands.

Cordyceps militaris can be cultivated rather easily and does not require any insects in the process. For many years, scientists have tried to cultivate Cordyceps sinensis to use for supplementation, but with no success as the larva of the Hepialus moth is needed. By cultivating and using C. militaris, finally, true beneficial Cordyceps mushroom extracts can be made and purchased.

Although these two types of Cordyceps are different species, there are similar and paralleled benefits amongst them, which gives distinct advantages to C. militaris. For starters, C. militaris can actually be cultivated and harvested beyond it’s native pinpoints, unlike C. sinensis. Another thing is that no insects are needed to cultivate it, I think a lot of people would appreciate that. But most important than anything else, Cordyceps militaris is a super charged version of Cordyceps! C. militaris produces the health supporting compound cordycepin in much higher amounts when compared to C. sinensis. In fact, a study published in the Journal Of Agricultural and Food Chemistry in 2008, confirmed that not only does C. militaris contain more cordycepin when compared to C. sinensis, it has up tp 90 times more!

These findings are very revealing and could be extremely useful when making the best decision in purchasing Cordyceps supplements. Certain cordyceps products are publicized and praise the benefits or cordycepin and C. sinensis as they may be labeled with it. Essentially, these findings would mean that products labeled as such would have undetectable amounts of this phytonutrient or generally less than that of a C. militaris supplement.

Traditionally, Cordyceps have been used to help support energy levels and healthy sexual function, as well as bronchial, lung, liver and kidney health. Certain studies have shown Cordyceps to assist the body by relaxing the bronchial walls and promote enhanced oxygen intake and utilization. Like other functional mushrooms, Cordyceps have shown an ability to support and protect the immune system. They help the body better adapt to immune threats and support a healthy inflammatory response, which is key to promoting respiratory health.

The Garden In The Jungle Presents...

Real Mushrooms

100% Pure Organic Mushroom Extracts

we're hiring!

Real Mushrooms is a top leading brand of organic mushroom extracts in the North American market, with the driven purpose of providing the mass public with high quality medicinal mushroom extracts. Real Mushrooms put emphasis on the term “real” because is has been brought to our attention that lots, if not most of the so called “mushroom” products that are made available on the market, especially online, do not contain the mushroom fruiting body but the mycelium that is grown on grains.

Manifested through family relations, Real Mushrooms first began after a deep discussion between Skye Chilton, the founder of Real Mushrooms, and his father Jeff Chilton. The Chilton family is deeply imbedded in the sector of mushroom cultivation. Jeff Chilton is a foundational figure in the mushroom market of North America as Jeff was one of the first to bring mushroom extracts to the North American market and organized the first organic mushroom growers workshop in China back in 1996. He has over 40 years of mushroom growing experience and is also the founder of Nammex, the leading suppler brand of organic mushroom extract ingredients to supplement companies in the North American region. Since 1989 Nammex has pioneered the development and manufacture of mushroom extracts for the health and wellness industry.

Jeff and Skye Chilton had the vision of creating an authentic mushroom brand that people can trust will provide them with the essence of nature. Skye Chilton watched all of this influence generate over his father as he grew up having different kinds of dreams. His background in computers had him convinced of becoming a video game designer. However, things started to make a turn later in his life, as he started to focus more on his health and wellbeing. He began to notice that their seemed to be a lack of quality mushroom supplements in the North American market, which consumers were unaware of. Driven by his frustration, Skye and Jeff discussed about starting a family owned and operated business that would supply consumers with top quality, real mushroom products. It was out of these conversations that Real Mushrooms came to be what it is today.

Real Mushrooms takes pride in what they are and in what they have to offer. Quality ingredients should always be the most desirable as they should obviously promote greater efficacy and safety. At The Garden In The Jungle we have learned that not all  mushroom products are made alike. We’ve learned that the mushroom market of North America is dominated by products that rarely contain the actual fruiting body that is the mushroom, or these products are never actually made with any part of the fruiting body at all but instead contain mycelium that is grown on grain. These products are commonly marketed as “mushroom” products yet they contain no mushrooms at all. To make matters worse, at times, the grains are not even separated from the mycelium and so the products are mainly the grain that the mycelium is growing on. This kind of marketing technique and business model is a big finger to mushroom lovers and enthusiasts everywhere. Very few of the important medicinal compounds found in these mushroom fruiting bodies remain in these products since the bulk of the product is grain. This thievery is not just of our pockets but of our health and development, which is why we we are honored to bring to you Real Mushrooms.

A Better Source For real Mushrooms

Mushrooms have a rich history in the past time of China. The cultivation of mushrooms for culinary and medicinal purposes dates back over thousands of years in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Some of the most revered species of mushrooms that can be considered foundational to Traditional Chinese Medicine such as the Reishi, shiitake, cordyceps and turkey tail mushrooms have long been used with traditional herbs to treat a variety of ailments like insomnia, fatigue, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Over time, as the many years went by, the Chinese developed an instinctive expertise in mushroom cultivation compared to the rest of the world. China grows a wide variety of medicinal mushrooms at a scale that can’t be replicated in North America.

We take pride in being in association with Real Mushrooms, just as they take pride in providing genuine mushroom extracts of the highest quality. They use, exclusively, the mushroom fruiting body in all of their products. No mycelium and no grains. All of the extracts provided by Real Mushrooms are from the leading supplier of organic mushroom extracts, the aforementioned Nammex. With over 40 years of mushroom growing experience, Nammex was one of the first companies to bring organic mushroom extracts to North America. Their ingredients go through rigorous quality control and are tested twice for heavy metals, agricultural chemicals and microbial contamination to ensure that they meet all standards for dietary supplements of this kind. All of their extracts are made from certified organic mushroom fruiting bodies, organically grown or wildcrafted from the mountainous regions of China.

Mushroom cultivation for health product ventures in North American when compared to China, has proved to be not very economical for the producer. Mushrooms used for dietary supplements are rarely grown in North America because it is too expensive. In actuality, China is the leading supplier of mushrooms worldwide and supplies over 85% of the worlds mushrooms. China is one of the very few paces where you can get 100% organic mushroom fruiting body extracts that can be sold at an affordable price. This is a big reason why its noteworthy to keep in mind that any mushroom products made in the United States are typically not made from mushrooms but mycelium.
